Nine Cakes began in the fall of 2008, getting an auspicious beginning selling mini cupcakes at the Brooklyn Indie Market and other New York City craft and foodie fairs.

The first year was a whirlwind: between baking hundreds of cakes and thousands of cupcakes, Nine Cakes made an appearance on the TODAY show (we were chosen to make the wedding cake for the 10th annual TODAY Throws a Wedding), turned up on Daily Candy, Wedded Bits, and finished the first year with a photoshoot with the talented crew at Martha Stewart Weddings. Most importantly, clients and customers continue to give rave reviews to their friends, helping us grow into our second year.

Now, building on a reputation for consistently fantastic cakes, Betsy Thorleifson, baker and owner of Nine Cakes, is happy to announce that we've got real doors in Red Hook, Brooklyn with the opening of our new shop. Although we’re still making cakes to order, if you’re in the neighborhood and see us whirling about with cakes and buttercreams, stop in to say hi. We often have some delicious bites around, waiting to be devoured.
